In the Spring of
2004, Stewart
Barker-Builder
was commissioned
to design and build a deck/screen room to complete this Winhall
home.
The problem : The original plan for this house included an attached screen room, accessed by double doors from the living area - but it was never done. The challenge was to to design an addition that complemented the original building - and looked like it had been there from the start. |
Like many projects, this one started at the ground. Footings were dug down to below the frost line, then poured. This ensures that the screen room will be stable during Vermont's icy winters |
After the footings and posts went in, the deck was framed, followed by the walls and roof structure. |
Here, the last of the siding is going on. As on many of our projects, the siding and trim were pre-stained before installation. This ensures a better job, and makes the final finishing much easier. |
The door from the screen room to the existing side deck. Beautiful ! With features like a composite decking floor and easily replacable screens, this room will be a low-maintenance treat for years and years to come. |
The view from behind the house. |
This fine home is now complete, with a fully functional screen room for elegant three-season living. The cedar interior and composite decking (with insect screen below) ensure both easy care and easy living. |
