During the summer of
2002, Stewart
Barker-Builder
tackled
a complex addition/renovation project for a homeowner in West
Jamaica
The problem : The new homeowners fell in love with the site - but not the existing building, a camp when it was originally built. So in 2001, Stewart Barker Builder, LLC added a cement floor to the dirt cellar, fixed some drainage issues and put an addition on the rear of the building. Then, in the summer of 2002, the REAL fun began ! |
|
The bumpout gets framed and roofed. The new stone fireplace will be centered on the outside wall of the addition. From there work can commence on the second story addition. |
|
Time to raze (not raise) the roof! The old roof and structure has been torn off and the framing has begun for the new second story. |
|
What a lot of angles ! Those geometry courses are coming in handy as work continues. The overall structure starts to take shape. |
|
With the major exterior work well in hand, work has begun on the interior. Still to come on the outside : new siding and a small deck over the front porch, to complement the new French Doors. |
|
Where once stood a humble camp, there now stands a beautiful home. The future holds yet another planned expansion, this time on the south side of the building, which is why the original siding remains on that side (far right). This will allow for a thoughtful renovation of the existing interior of the first floor. |
